The station has confirmed that both Alison and cameraman Adam Ward were killed.
A total of three people were shot in the incident and there's an ongoing search for the gunman.

America should really do something about their gun laws, these incessant senseless killings are getting too much!

NEW ALLEGATIONS AGAINST FORMER GOVERNOR FASHOLA OVER N139M BOREHOLE

These days it seems fresh allegations of wasteful spending are unearthed about Governor Fashola's tenure everyday. The Former Governor of Lagos state whom we all admired seem to be in a situation whereby his clean image is being tainted daily.

It seems some people are hell-bent on seeing to it that the Action Governor does not make President Buhari's cabinet come September. Hence all these allegations cropping up here and there.

The recent allegation is that the Governor spent 139Million Naira on Drilling just two Boreholes ,while he built a Car Park with over 600Million Naira.I hope for all things sane, that this is a big lie or else..who can we have faith in again?

GOVERNOR FAYOSE AND HIS LOVE FOR MINGLING

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti has never shied away from the fact that he is a grassroots politician.

The  controversial Governor has always mingled with his people, eating roasted corn with them, sipping palm wine, seen in Amala joints, taking Motorcycle(Okada) transport  and so many others  too numerous to mention.

It even seems this is what endears him to his people. No wonder he was voted in massively during the last elections. Some of his critics believe this is a crass way of leading, but I am of the belief that whether all these is for showmanship or not, it works for him and his people see him as the people's Governor whom they can relate to.

IS TOYIN AIMAKHU JOHNSON'S MARRIAGE TROUBLED?

This is the question that begs to be asked, judging by the Nollywood Actress recent actions. Her fans and followers alike on Social Network, Instagram noticed that the delectable actress Changed her Name from Mrs to Miss Toyin Aimakhu, while also deleting all her husband Niyi Johnson's pictures from her page.

This brought about speculations that the marriage, contracted two years ago is already experiencing hiccups. However this is not the first time Aimakhu will cause stir over issues concerning her marriage. Some months ago, she gave some insinuations that they were going their separate ways because her husband cheated on her, only for the couple to come back in a united front. Here is hoping this is not another publicity stunt as it is getting to rampant.

DOG EATS FOUR MONTHS OLD BABY

I remember arguing with my husband a lot of times about owning a dog in the house. He is a dog lover,i on the other hand cannot imagine having one around me. I have always had that phobia for dogs.
To make matter worse, I have read stories of dogs attacking little children several times. They can be dangerous around Children.

So it was with sadness that I read that a four month old baby,Chinonso was eaten to death by the family dog.According to Leadership Newspaper, the tragedy struck

on Friday in Asaba, Delta State, when a 37-year-old house wife, Maureen Akowe, a graduate of sociology from the state-owned university allegedly lost her four-month-old baby to her dog.It was gathered that the four- month-old baby was driven in the mother’s car alongside the dog to a popular supermarket along Okpanam Road, Asaba, where the house wife had gone for shopping for the baby’s upkeep.

Former Vice Chairman of the People's Democratic Party, Southwest region, Chief Bode George has urged the President to probe the  past Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola ,over the ongoing scandal of the 78.3million Naira Website developed for the Governor during his term in office.

The PDP  Chieftain in a statement released recently, stated that it would be unfair it the President does not beam his searchlight on corruption allegations leveled against the former Governor. PIERRE NKURUNZIZA BECOMES BURUNDIAN PRESIDENT FOR THE THIRD TIME

Pierre Nkurunziza has been sworn in as the President of Burundi for her third time in a controversial election which has thrown the country into chaos.

The election was highly disputed and it led to a boycott by the opposition.

Nkurunziza took the "oath for a new term of five years", the presidency said in a statement, in a surprise ceremony on Thursday, announced only a few hours in advance. His previous tenure was slated to end on August 26.
His third term has been condemned as unconstitutional by the opposition and provoked months of protests. In mid-May, rebel generals attempted a coup, which failed.

Foreign Observers said the elections were flawed and marred with inconsistencies ,it was not free and credible.

I wonder why African Leaders have this sit tight mentality. They want to be in power  forever, and they do everything possible to foist themselves on the masses. It is obvious that they use these leadership positions are used to enrich themselves.

IS FATHER KUKAH NOW A PARIAH?

Growing up and reading anything from Bishop Matthew  Kukah in the dailies, I knew he was a special man, a revered clergy who spoke the truth at all times.
I loved and still love his stance on issues, especially issues bordering on the lives of Nigerian. I saw him and still see him as a man who feared no regime, he spoke for the masses at a time when it was dangerous to do so.

So it came to me as a rude shock to  read disparaging comments about this man of Integrity on social media sites, especially on Twitter  some days ago just because he Kukah spoke some home truths about the recent happenings in the country. What was his offence exactly? You may ask.

Father Kukah recently criticized the President Buhari led administration that it needs  to focus on governance instead of investigating corruption linked to past governments in the country. He said these investigations are causing  distractions for the new president. And that we need a stable Nigeria first before and every other thing will fall into place.

Most commenters on the issue felt he said corrupt people should be forgiven and not probed at all. However  my own understanding of what the Bishop said is that the president should take one step at a time and that chasing corrupt officials should not top his list of priorities. I believe those that has rendered the economy to be in the state it is right now should be held accountable.

Truth be told, probing  past corrupt officials seems to be the hallmark of this new dispensation. Do I believe corrupt people should be probed? Definitely yes! Even sent to the gallows for putting Nigerians into such misery .

APC supporters should note that the president will be criticized. Not all his projects will be lauded and that is very normal in a democracy. I urge them to desist from attacking anyone that gives a constructive criticism of

NOT LETTING GO OF OLD ITEMS

People who know me well will tell you I act like an old woman at heart. This is borne out of the fact that I keep old and antiquated items a lot. I still have items from high school, and I am sure if checked further even stuff from elementary.

It is habitual and I have tried to change, it is just that I get attached to certain items. I mean what purpose will a secondary school literature note serve? I have asked myself too, yet I have notes, receipts from High school and diploma days.

Although I have now learnt to de-clutter and throw away things that are not useful. Especially stuff that has spent years in my room or anywhere else in the house for that matter. Ranging from .Magazine from years ago that are no longer published to Newspapers all stored in my  mini library.  I think it is a genetic trait I inherited from my father. I remember my mum urging him to throw away objects he has had for years without touching them yet he insists they might be useful someday.

I always believe I will need to read an article or two over again in an old newspaper. What about cloths? Now don't get me wrong, I give out as many as possible, but I just feel there are some that are timeless pieces, that can be worn over and over again, hence I hold on to them.

Do you also have this habit or know someone who does same? Feel free to drop your comment.

ABOBAKU SAGA

I was hoping the Abobaku fiasco was a joke although deep within me i know it is tradition.

For those who don't know, the Abobaku' is the King's right hand man,he is designated to die or be buried along with the king upon the King's demise, so that the king will not sojourn alone to the other side of the divide.

Wole Soyinka's classic Play Death and the King's Horseman succinctly depicts this whole scenario. In the play the King's horseman who is supposed to offer himself up to be buried alongside the King stalls  and tarries,he is reluctant to go on that suicide mission,he even bedded a young virgin at a time when he should be geting ready to join his ancesators.Of course his actions are met with a backlash..and he eventally commits suicide.

Now back to the present day Nigeria, the twenty first century. The year of our lord 2015 precisely. This  culture of burying people alongside the King doesnt augur well for us.It takes us centuriesback,if you ask me.I am a lover of our cultures and traditions quite alright, but one feels some of these inhumane traditions should be done away with.

Asking someone to die alongside a monarch is not palatable at all, and i don't really blame the Abobaku for reneging this particular 'duty'. As it is now people have to live in constant fear in Ile Ife,no nocturnal activities because the powers that are allegedly searching for heads to roll and sacrificed for the King's passage.

Let us abolish this archaic part of our traditions,it is not doing us any good.Imagine if twins were still being killed because of our beliefs that they are evil.Subjecting an individual to death should not top the list of our priorities.

EVERYDAYS IS FOR THE THIEF

As the popular Nigerian adage says, Everyday is for the Thief, one day is for the owner. This statement came true today as karma  caught up with one of the fraudulent guys who sells fake items to people in Lagos, especially in traffic.

According to twitter user @nana_figa this young man pictured above, was caught selling a bar of soap packaged like a phone to an unsuspecting buyer. Luck however ran out on him as his trick was uncovered. He was made to dial numbers and call with the 'phone'. Serves him right.

Although, on the flip side, I also I blame buyers who do not go through the right channels to get their goods, why not enter a good phone shop and get your desired gadget? instead of being swindled of your hard earned money, by people like this one caught today.
Probably to buy at a cheaper rate? Only God knows why they are patronized.

Be careful before you part ith your money.

EMBARRASSING DANFO CHRONICLES PT1

When your car has been grounded for a while and you have no choice but to take Danfo buses and Keke Marwas within Lagos, you just have to take it as it comes. As you know, that cab fares in Lagos are too expensive  and one cannot resort to taking cabs everyday, except you have a gold mine maybe..And for an Ijebu girl like me who wants to and likes to save money, I chose certain places and occasions to go to with a cab at least till I can drive again (soon).

After a tiring experience yesterday at work, I took a danfo home as usual. As a rule I do not sleep inside buses or even cabs. Yes  am vigilant like that. But you see this nature cannot be cheated, I didn't sleep well the previous night as the toddler disturbed me for most part of the night, coupled with the fact that I had to wake up early in order to get to work on time.

So lets just say I found a relaxing spot in the bus, and a s soon as the fresh breeze hit me, I started dozing off, so I said to myself, let me nap for a few minutes before getting to my destination. So I rested my head on the seat handle in front of me. Then all of a sudden, I must have slept so deep because  my head just jerked away from the handle and I almost hit the person sitting right next to me.

To say I was embarrassed will be an understatement. I didn't believe that just happened to me. Thank God I didn't drool of saliva because those few minutes I got to sleep was enjoyable. I said sorry to the lady beside me and she nodded in an understanding way. I remained at alert till the bus conductor shouted when we got to my bus stop and I replied 'owa o' as I alighted from the rickety yellow bus.

VOCABULARY TIME

Hello readers! I  have been inundated privately by several readers to make this Vocabulary time more constant on the blog. I promise I will, thank you for your readership.

Now to the main business, the word focus for today will be *drum roll* is the word INCUMBENT.
On first contact with the word, I thought it only meant a sitting official, e.g a sitting Governor or President. The word was very common and thrown around during the last elections in Nigeria. You hear words like 'the incumbent President will be unseated.'

However, I have come across the word n several articles, used in another context. E.g., It is incumbent upon the students to study well.

So here are the meanings;

1.Incumbent :holder of  an office or position.

2.Incumbent: A duty or responsibility.

You can now add this to your bag of vocabularies, that is if you haven't done that already.Cheers!

AFENIFERE DESCRIBES OBASANJO AS INTELLECTUALLY INFERIOR

Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is suffering from intellectual inferiority, following his recent comments about the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has recently said the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was never the leader of the Yoruba but was only elected leader by his followers. He also described the Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, as one who has better expertise in wine matters than in political analysis.
The elder statesman, while speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, said it was a shame that the former president could describe such an international figure (Soyinka) that has done Nigeria proud in such a derogatory term.
He also aligned himself with the statement made by a former governor of Ogun state, Olusegun Osoba, that nobody is good in Obasanjo’s eyes, to say it is on record that the former president has never praised any leader who ruled before or after him.
“As for Obasanjo, Nigeria began when he became president. He does not believe anybody did anything better before or after. Have you heard Obasanjo praising any leader before independence till this present day? Is there any leader who became president before and after him that he has not condemned? What kind of a character is that?”
“Nobody is perfect. When people talk about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in America today, it is not as if they don’t have their defects but the Americans choose to highlight their positive sides. That is not Obasanjo. He said negative things about Wole Soyinka who did us proud in the literary world”.

PRESIDENCY FORCED UPON JONATHAN AND LATE YARADUA- DONALD DUKE

Stories have been swirling for a while now that former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo Forced the Late Umaru Mus Yaradua and his then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to contest for President and Vice President respectively.

A ccording to the Former governor of Cross River state Donald Duke, he says former President Jonathan told him and former president Obasanjo he never wanted to be the Vice president of Nigeria when he was selected to be the running mate to late President Umaru Yar'Adua for the 2007 general election. Donald Duke said this in an interview with news magazine, The Interviewer

"You don’t give authority to an unwilling person, particularly in a country like Nigeria. Umaru never wanted to be president. He was dealing with his health issues and wanted to retire and go lecture in a university. He was really offered an appointment at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. Jonathan, on the other hand, had just been re-elected to be governor of Bayelsa and when he was picked, he was not so pleased. He said to Obasanjo and me, ‘I don’t want this job".
If these two men never aspired to the office but were recruited to take on a responsibility as daunting as the management of Nigeria without mentally preparing for the office and having a grand vision of where they wanted to take Nigeria to, then there is a problem. The mental preparation is absolutely important. The vision can be scripted for you, but if you are not prepared and you have no capable team to help you follow through, it is grossly unfair. It is like converting a passenger on an aircraft to a pilot.”

STILL ON THE ELECTRICITY MATTER PT3

Exactly one week after I wrote the Part two of these power series, let me just say we are still savoring the pleasures of constant electricity.

At this point, I don't think I ever want to go back to the darkness that was synonymous to every neighborhood in the country. This must go on forever! Oh the sweet joys of getting home to see that there is light for me to see and do all my chores, instead of carrying my rechargeable lamps all about or struggling to get fuel for my generating set.

I can confidently now delay ironing my cloths, without fear of 'NEPA' taking the light.

A colleague  at work made me see another angle about the improvement in power supply by saying that ,now if he gets his power bill he will be so eager to pay as he is getting value for his money. I like the point he raised and it is very true. If at the end of the month  my husband and I see our bill at least we will know it is justifiable, unlike before when you paid for something you do not use.

We shall continue to enjoy this new change, No to saboteurs and powers that be who are truncating efforts to make us enjoy this very basic amenity in Nigeria in the 21st century.

CONTROVERSIAL SINGER/WRITER ETCETERA RUBBISHES HIS COLLOEAGUES

By now we are all used to the fact that Etcetera writes controversial pieces and does not care whose ox is gored. In this new article he hits his counterparts below the belt:
'Well, I think I’m finally safe to write this article, since I’ve set up my e-mail software to automatically filter out any messages containing swear words. Sincerely, I don’t know if there’s any song that made me change the TV station faster than this one. If I didn’t, I’d have been doomed to have a group of adults with hideous and unsync voices chanting,“we are the children” over and over in my head for the next six months.
And that certainly isn’t all that’s wrong with the song. Michael Jackson would probably be spitting and cursing in his grave right now, like a pregnant woman with whitlow on her ten fingers and toes. What the heck were they thinking changing his beautifully composed piece of art to the most insipid crap ever written?
I’m going to tell you this for free; don’t listen to We Are The World by African all stars unless you’re trying to get a bone out of your throat. That is only when the song would be useful.
We know that African music isn’t made up of the best singers anymore, but honestly, how did they think that they could fill up a seven-minute song with nothing but monotonous chanting of the same feeble chorus over and over again?

WRISTWATCHES AND I

There was a day my friend Olamide put a message on her Blackberry Messenger status that she forgot her wristwatch at home and she feels naked without it.

Right there and then, I realized I haven't worn a watch in over a year. My husband has given up and has said he will never buy me a watch because he knows I wont wear it.

Am I the only weird one? Even before the advent of mobile phones in Nigeria, that allows us to check the time on our devices, I have noticed that I do not really have a penchant for wristwatches.

I admire them on others, especially the really good ones. Heck,i have some myself too, but wearing them everyday will need a lot of prompting. I simply do not remember my watches.

Someone once told me it doesn't speak well of any individual not wearing a watch, I think that is taking it too far, wristwatches do not make a man! Just like cloths do not, or do they? Henceforth  I Now want to cultivate the habit of adorning my wrist with fabulous pieces. What is your take on wristwatches?

CONSTANT ELECTRICITY SUPPLY PT 2

Like I am doing in my area in Lagos State, are you guys also reveling in the joys the 'born again' power supply is bringing to each household? I heard the good power supply is enjoyed nation wide.

As a working class woman, who leaves home early every morning and comes back in the evening, the task of cooking everyday can be daunting. I started cooking everyday when I realized that after stocking up my fridge, I end up throwing away food because of power issues. We don't use the generator everyday, so that could not help. As someone who detests wastage, I stopped cooking in bulk and resorted to almost everyday cooking.
