PRESIDENCY FORCED UPON JONATHAN AND LATE YARADUA- DONALD DUKE

Stories have been swirling for a while now that former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo Forced the Late Umaru Mus Yaradua and his then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to contest for President and Vice President respectively.

A ccording to the Former governor of Cross River state Donald Duke, he says former President Jonathan told him and former president Obasanjo he never wanted to be the Vice president of Nigeria when he was selected to be the running mate to late President Umaru Yar'Adua for the 2007 general election. Donald Duke said this in an interview with news magazine, The Interviewer

"You don’t give authority to an unwilling person, particularly in a country like Nigeria. Umaru never wanted to be president. He was dealing with his health issues and wanted to retire and go lecture in a university. He was really offered an appointment at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. Jonathan, on the other hand, had just been re-elected to be governor of Bayelsa and when he was picked, he was not so pleased. He said to Obasanjo and me, ‘I don’t want this job".
If these two men never aspired to the office but were recruited to take on a responsibility as daunting as the management of Nigeria without mentally preparing for the office and having a grand vision of where they wanted to take Nigeria to, then there is a problem. The mental preparation is absolutely important. The vision can be scripted for you, but if you are not prepared and you have no capable team to help you follow through, it is grossly unfair. It is like converting a passenger on an aircraft to a pilot.”

STILL ON THE ELECTRICITY MATTER PT3

Exactly one week after I wrote the Part two of these power series, let me just say we are still savoring the pleasures of constant electricity.

At this point, I don't think I ever want to go back to the darkness that was synonymous to every neighborhood in the country. This must go on forever! Oh the sweet joys of getting home to see that there is light for me to see and do all my chores, instead of carrying my rechargeable lamps all about or struggling to get fuel for my generating set.

I can confidently now delay ironing my cloths, without fear of 'NEPA' taking the light.

A colleague  at work made me see another angle about the improvement in power supply by saying that ,now if he gets his power bill he will be so eager to pay as he is getting value for his money. I like the point he raised and it is very true. If at the end of the month  my husband and I see our bill at least we will know it is justifiable, unlike before when you paid for something you do not use.

We shall continue to enjoy this new change, No to saboteurs and powers that be who are truncating efforts to make us enjoy this very basic amenity in Nigeria in the 21st century.

PICTURE FROM TONTO DIKE'S INTRODUCTION CEREMONY

Embedded image permalink
Controversial Nollywood Actress and 'singer' Tonto Dike surprised her fans pleasantly this weekend, when pictures of her introduction to her beau Churchill Oladunni in Portharcourt surfaced.

It is rumored that the light skinned actress is already on a nine month course. People are hoping this marital journey will tame her and make her less controversial. Well we shall see.

CONTROVERSIAL SINGER/WRITER ETCETERA RUBBISHES HIS COLLOEAGUES

By now we are all used to the fact that Etcetera writes controversial pieces and does not care whose ox is gored. In this new article he hits his counterparts below the belt:
'Well, I think I’m finally safe to write this article, since I’ve set up my e-mail software to automatically filter out any messages containing swear words. Sincerely, I don’t know if there’s any song that made me change the TV station faster than this one. If I didn’t, I’d have been doomed to have a group of adults with hideous and unsync voices chanting,“we are the children” over and over in my head for the next six months.
And that certainly isn’t all that’s wrong with the song. Michael Jackson would probably be spitting and cursing in his grave right now, like a pregnant woman with whitlow on her ten fingers and toes. What the heck were they thinking changing his beautifully composed piece of art to the most insipid crap ever written?
I’m going to tell you this for free; don’t listen to We Are The World by African all stars unless you’re trying to get a bone out of your throat. That is only when the song would be useful.
We know that African music isn’t made up of the best singers anymore, but honestly, how did they think that they could fill up a seven-minute song with nothing but monotonous chanting of the same feeble chorus over and over again?

WRISTWATCHES AND I

There was a day my friend Olamide put a message on her Blackberry Messenger status that she forgot her wristwatch at home and she feels naked without it.

Right there and then, I realized I haven't worn a watch in over a year. My husband has given up and has said he will never buy me a watch because he knows I wont wear it.

Am I the only weird one? Even before the advent of mobile phones in Nigeria, that allows us to check the time on our devices, I have noticed that I do not really have a penchant for wristwatches.

I admire them on others, especially the really good ones. Heck,i have some myself too, but wearing them everyday will need a lot of prompting. I simply do not remember my watches.

Someone once told me it doesn't speak well of any individual not wearing a watch, I think that is taking it too far, wristwatches do not make a man! Just like cloths do not, or do they? Henceforth  I Now want to cultivate the habit of adorning my wrist with fabulous pieces. What is your take on wristwatches?

CONSTANT ELECTRICITY SUPPLY PT 2

Like I am doing in my area in Lagos State, are you guys also reveling in the joys the 'born again' power supply is bringing to each household? I heard the good power supply is enjoyed nation wide.

As a working class woman, who leaves home early every morning and comes back in the evening, the task of cooking everyday can be daunting. I started cooking everyday when I realized that after stocking up my fridge, I end up throwing away food because of power issues. We don't use the generator everyday, so that could not help. As someone who detests wastage, I stopped cooking in bulk and resorted to almost everyday cooking.

So many people with kind hearts, don't let the wickedness in the world fool you. Instead of wasting their money on an extravagant wedding, these Turkish couple decided to celebrate their wedding by feeding 4000 Syrian refugees.

May God reward them mightily. The bride looks so stunning by the way.
