VOCABULARY TIME.

Today we focus on the word FEIGN.
What does it mean to feign? It means Pretend or to give a false appearance,e.g Tayo feigned sickness yesterday so as no t to partake in the cleaning exercise.

So add this right now to your bag of vocabularies and thank me later, lol.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE-IS IT SLEEP INDUCING?

Pictures they say speak a thousand words, when  the people that are supposed to go and chart a new course andfor the nation and discuss salient issues seem to have being bitten by the famous Tse-Tse fly, then we know there is fire on the mountain.

From the pictures alone it shows how bored these delegates are already,as if they cannot wait for it to be over, smh! With the amount of money spent on each delegate, something good had better come out of it.

P.S- i don't know why the conference is filled with oldies, there are many youths in Nigeria, why are we not fully represented?

TASTE OF STRAWBERRIES.

While i want to assume that some people get to eat this often due to their location,i know those people will be in the minority, because like apples which does not grow here, strawberries too do not grow in Nigeria to the best of my knowledge,so i only got to taste it in my adult life,i think for the first time at a party some years back, where it was added to the dessert(ice cream).

All this while, like every other person,i was under the illusion that strawberries tasted like sugar or honey, you wouldnt blame me,because anything strawberry flavoured is usually sweet(bush gal that i am!)from ice creams to yoghourts and even strawberry flavored perfumes!yea, they smell 'sweet' so you get my reaction the first time in took a bite and realized it is actually sour, not even sweet sour, veryy sour, just like Guava or Agbalumo(i heard cherry is the English name for it).

I actually craved for it so much while i was pregnant, but unlike apples which you can find anywhere, strawberries are so scarce in Lagos and expensive even when you do find them.I am blogging about this because,it is so funny,my husband also tasted it for the first time recently, and he expressed his disappointment so to speak,he also thought it is a sweet fruit, and he told me some of his friends present when he brought it,reacted the same way.So i am wondering, what made us think it was going to be a sweet fruit in the first place, perhaps the color?Whatever it is they look like sweet fruits.

And sour or not,i love strawberries and i am munching some as i am typing this, you are free to join in!

OF BAGS AND PURSES.

This is for the ladies,i just have to share my handbag habits with my lovely readers, that's if there is anything called handbag habits in the first place.

.You see,i i don't have a fetish for bags really,i don't buy bags the way i buy cloths or shoes,i don't know why,i just don't see the need for it,and i do get bags as gifts more often than not ,lets just say i am not the bag type. And here's the reason, even after buying a new bag,i find it so difficult changing and transferring stuff from my old bag,i don't know if i am making sense, call it laziness on my part, buy hey,i am the type that carries one bag for a duration of months,i am not that inclined towards changing bags to match different outfits like ladies are generally expected to do lol,but that's just me.If only i can love bags the way i do shoes or say clothes for instance.Left to me all the Hermes bags in this world would not sell because i am not easily impressed by bags,do not get me wrong,i admire them alot on people, but i am not crazy about those items at all.

Another habit of mine which i have tried to curb is almost always forgetting to carry purses,i would just take my handbag, even for parties, but yea,it's unladylike(common Ajibola!) so i try as much as possible to remember i own  purses anytime i am going for functions.I must admit they make dressing complete most times.

So ladies and gentlemen, what's your take on bags?Do u feel a bag should be changed often or for people like us who do not see it as a big deal, should we just maintain the status quo,let me know.ciao!

MY MUSINGS ON NIGERIA 1.

This is going to be one of a series i will be doing on MY MUSINGS ON NIGERIA,THEY WILL BE A COMPILATION OF MY THOUGHTS.So please read on.

I just have to put down my thoughts about all the instability going on in this country, ias hopeful and highly optimistic as i am about Nigeria,i just pray i don't lose hope, because my hope is beginning to thin out.

For how long are we going to continue like this?i feel like ranting,i know most people share the same feeling, they understand they way i am feeling right now. There is a huge divide between the rich and the poor, people die of hunger everyday. While our leaders siphon our monies to foreign lands, and in foreign accounts, money laundering has now become the order of the day, they sqaunder how collective wealth without constraints.

For how long are we going to remain in darkness?with all the dams in Nigeria we cannot generate electricity, money is even allocated to fuel generators in our ministries by the presidency, wow!how shameful is that? There is really no hope, and the masses are expected to pay for power which they did not enjoy,i cry for my country. So many business have falling apart because of lack of power, for how long are the low income business men going to depend on petrol to power their generators? And not that fuel comes cheap this days anyway.

For how long will this country have to suffer from maternal mortality? To see women still dying from childbirth is a shame, just because some people have refused to develop our healthcare facilities, our hospitals are in a state of disrepair,In this time and age;Nigeria is the only country alongside Pakistan that still suffers from polio epidemic. No children should have polio in this century, but go to the north and see how endemic the disease is over there.

For how long are we supposed to continue living in fear?Fear of armed robbers and kidnappers is now  the beginning of wisdom!kidnappers now abduct random people just to call out ridiculous amounts of money which their families cannot afford, all in the name of ransom. Our security operatives are not helping matters, they always seem to turn the blind eye. What is the goverment doiung about curbing this menace. They are so comfortable, after all, they have security operatives protecting them twenty four hours a day!So many crimes abound, youngsters have now resorted to crimes like it is running out of fashion,no jobs or anything worthwhile to keep them busy, the rate of unemployment is on the rise..i know i am ranting, and i will continue to rant.

For how long will prices of food stuff will be on the rise?An average family can barely survive just because some people who are meant to serve them and provide a better life for them are sitting on the money that belongs to the entire populace. They display their ostentatious lifestyle without caring whose ox is gored.Their children are opportuned to attend the best schools abroad, they party hard and live on the fast lane, while the children of the oppresed can barely pay his way through high scholl, and tertiary education seem like a tall dream. All the money allocated or budgeted for education and indded other sectors are diverted and put to personal use. When will this set of people be held accountable for their acts?

For how long will the fuel scarcity last?Fuel stations hoard fuel hoping for an increase in the price so that they can make extra cash and enjoy through  their own selfish gains.I have come to know that some Nigerians are so  greedy and most do not care about the plight of the next man,so far their own pockets are full.No wonder we have bad leaders in power, because the average citizen is wicked in his thoughts and deeds.

For how long will there be the culture of ritual killings in Nigeria?where you have people killing others in cold murder  all in the name of money rituals?A case ofm an's inhumanity to man.No conscience whatsoever. And because we are in a country where people celebrate ill gotten wealth,it has become a norm,it is even no longer shocking to hear of such horrors stories, when did we get here?No wonder some will go any length to butcher a fellow man to sacrifice for money.

For how long will rapist get away with their insane acts?Rape cases are now on the rise, the trend is so scary. One would think with the number of women of easy virtue that plies their trade in almost every corner in all states of the federation, men would need not look further to satisfy their crazy urge, but no,they would rather turn to violence and molest women, and knowing the kind of justice system we have, they ae sure to get away with it most times.

I can go on and on over so many issues we are facing in Nigeria,so many questions fill my head, but i can only hope that change will come, and i so much want to be part of that change.I can only pray it comes soon enough.

NEWLY APPOINTED DEFENSE MINISTER RESIGNS

Reports from Sahara Reporters indicates that the newly appointed Minister for Defense Aliyu Gusau just resigned, details are still sketchy right now at the time of blogging this, will update later. But Nigerian Government officials rarely resign their positions,it must have been a tough decision to make.

Aliyu Mohammed Gusau Should Be In Jail Not The Federal Executive Council – Dr. Peregrino Brimah

THIS HEARTLESS YOUNG LADY ARRANGED A GANG RAPE FOR HER FRIEND

Her name is Mary, but unlike the biblical mary, this one's heart is far from being pure,a student of the College Of Technology Offa,Kwara State, she confessed to being the one behind the gang raping of her friend by five guys, who all took turns to have sex with the poor lady(her names are witheld),she is indeed a wolf in sheep's clothing,we really have to be wary of the kind of friends we keep seriously.

She even  said the evil act of gang raping ladies in her school isn't new, because she was also gang raped by four men before she was initiated into the group.while she was paraded, she told the press that“I did not gain anything from cultism and I regret all my actions’’of course what's to gain in cultism?looking at her face who would have thought she is capable of such acts, our society is degenerating fast,it is so scary.

MAN INJECTS HIMSELF WITH OIL AND ALCOHOL TO BUILD BICEPS.

Lately people have been up to crazy things in order to achieve the body they desire, from women who inject cements in their buttocks ,to pumping silicon in the breast and on the lips, the list is endless.

And now this man from brazil Arlindo de Souza, 43, injects himself with a mixture of mineral oil and alcohol to obtain massive 29-inch biceps.According to New York Post De Souza injected himself with the mixture for two months two years ago in his attempt to become the top dog at his gym in Olinda, a city on the country’s northeastern coast.

The Brazilian isn’t the only person resorting to using synthetic materials to bulk up his bod, as many others in the bodybuilding community are said to be doing the same.

Doctors claim that the frequent injections play havoc with muscle tissue and can result in the formation of multiple abscesses which can lead to amputation or death.

Just in de Souza’s inner circle, the practice has proven deadly, claiming the life of the bodybuilder’s close friend, Paulinho.I wish him well...

BOKO HARAM MEMEBER ALLEGEDLY CONFESSES THAT HE WAS SENT TO BOMB TB JOSHUA'S CHURCH.

Isn't that our prayers, that this devil incarnates will start confessing and even change their ways. One of the alleged member of the dreaded sect Mustapha, claims he came from Adamawa and  said he and four other members of the sect, were sent to Lagos to bomb The Synagogue of All Nations. Mustapha said when the five of them got to the church entrance, they saw a mallam there and they gave him a metre bomb to hold for them, but he refused.
Mustapha said afterwards they walked into a restaurant close to the church, while thinking of  the next step to take, they looked up and watch the Tv (Emmanuel Tv) where Prophet TB Joshua was preaching. He said he was praying for the viewers and they were touched and had a change of mind. They decided to all run away and abandon the assignment, but he, Mustapha couldn't because a spirit arrested him. He also explained how they get initiated into the sect, and how he has been seeing prophet TB Joshua in his dreams warning him to stop killing people.

May God continually touch their souls, the carnage they have caused in the North is just too much,we are tired of their thirst for blood letting. And the government should also put in more efforts in combating this  insurgents, they are bent on destroying Nigeria and Nigerians as a whole,i still don't know what they want to achieve and it is quite obvious they have affluent sponsors, because their attacks are said to be carried out with sophisticated weapons and they are also very tactical, who are these sponsors? That'sthe question that begs to be asked.

NIGERIAN ARTISANS AND THEIR PROBLEMS.

Ranging from your average Carpenter,Electrician,Tailor,Mechanics,Plumber, just name it,any artisan that comes to mind. These set of people have the ability to drive a sane person crazy, especially when they have been paid to do your job. They are called 'onise owo' in Yoruba parlance and they can hold a customer by the jugular, most of them have lost clients due to their non-nonchalant attitudes to their chosen profession, believing another customer will always come, even if u no longer require their services, what a twisted mentality.

The other day the electrician came to fix a ceiling fan at mines, fast forward  to a week later, the fan blew up,yes you read right, blew up,he probably didn't connect the wires well or something and of course after having cashed his own check/cheque,all efforts to make him come and do the repairs have been futile, what would it take to come and fix the fan you ask me?.Another experience i had was with a   new tailor around my area,i gave her the material almost two weeks earlier, letting her know i will be wearing it to a wedding  the upper Saturday, she said no problem, took measurements, money exchanged hands and she told me to come and collect my cloth the following Wednesday,lo and behold i got there and she has not even cut the fabric, what!!!,i calmed down, because i figured this is our first encounter, she didn't really have much explanations to give,so she told me to come back on Thursday evening, well your guess is as good as mine, lets just say i was at her shop by 6.45am on Saturday morning which was when she started putting finishing touches to the said cloth,i had tears welled up in my eyes because i was so so disappointed and her excuse was that she thought the style i chose was so simple and she could finish it in a day,not knowing that the fabric is hard to sew, what a lame excuse!i just took my cloth and left her shop seething with anger.

What about the mechanics that will inflate prices and make you cough out lump sums of money, simply because they know you do know better, your car might just need plugs, but knowing you are not aware of what the problem with your car is,they will just compound it and make you pay for a non-existent problem.I can go on and on about the antics of various artisans in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole, but that will be time consuming, almost everybody i know has had an unpleasant experience with this people and i don't know why, seems like it's even a criteria for artisans to know how to annoy, disappoint  and in most cases lose clients here in naija or could it be as a result of our orientation as a people or what?We seriously need to change our mindsets, because even the educated ones among them are not left out of this unbecoming behavior.

Dear readers have you had a nasty experience before, feel free to share.

ASOEBI CRAZE

As the title of this post suggests, buying Asoebi has become so endemic in our society that its not even funny!in a month an average sisi(young lady)knows where her pocket hurts over this trend, although it is not limited to we 'youngins'like the Americans will say,we actually met the trend from generations before us,ours mothers 'invested' in asoebi during their own time and even now,it is a never ending culture for all Nigerians, men are not even left out from this craze for uniformity at parties, what started as a Yoruba cultural phenomenom has now eaten deep into the fabrics of our society, that all tribes in Nigeria now suscribe to picking Asoebi for any event,be it an house warming ceremony, weddings, shop opening, just name it and you see people looking colourful in the uniformed attire.

I am not left out of the Asoebi craze and i will use myself as a case study, for someone who is quite sociable,i tend to buy a lot of Asoebi, and the annoying thing about it though is the fact that we don't really wear these outfits more than two times if we have to be sincere with ourselves, and to think that an average Asoebi costs nothing less than Three thousand Naira for the simplest Ankara fabric and i am just putting it mildly here..and for those who don't even  keep friends as such,at least there will be one sister or aunty in your family, church o, mosque, school, place of work whom you would be forced to buy asoebi from either because she is getting married or it is her dad's 60th birthday shindig,so you see one cannot really escape this palavar, what with the advent of BBM,Instagram and all other social medial platforms, babes would always like to showcase the latest styles and the accessories to go with it,not helping matters at all are the various attractive fabrics all over the market, from velvet to sequins, damask,French lace, you just name it,there is always an endless supply.

Nigerian Ladies love Asoebi to the extent that some ladies actually buy Asoebis for parties of people they do not have any affiliations with whatsoever, funny but true!you just tell them about the party and show the fabric and they are in,sounds ridiculous, but it happens, lol.

And here are the steps to actualize that look that leaves us all with our mouths agape on instagram and other platforms, looks that generate a lot of comments and likes:

  1. You loose sleep trying to find the best style for the fabric.

  2. Even when you buy five yards, there is this desire to add a fine fabric, just to bring out that unique style(except for the simple iro and buba, most times we buy another fabric to the said Asoebi *sigh*).

  3. Then you want to make sure you have a tailor who doesn't disappoint.

  4. Of course the big one,the amount the tailor would Charge! as an aside, sometimes i feel like learning how to make dresses because these fashion designers making lots of money !even if not for the business side of it,i will be able to sew my numerous Asoebis myself, lol.

  5. The last but not the least, the acceseories, shoes and bag to match the perfect outfit.

Wow,sometimes if one thinks about, the question that comes to mind is,is it really worth it?But in all modesty is key, learn to say no when you know you are not up to it financially, trust me,you do not want to run into debt all in the name of buying a fabric the tailor might even end up destroying!yes it happens a lot of times.

VOCABULARY TIME

SUPERVISE Vs MONITOR

Both words seem to have the same meaning right?yes,so it seems!some people use the two words interchangeably though, but they differ in connotation.

The two words are synonyms, for the act of overseeing the execution of a task or activity. When you supervise, you interact, because you have the responsibilty of informing and directing, however, you just observe when you monitor. One can supervise children to do the right thing, while monitering can be done by a human or machine.

GIVING TITHES

Here i am pondering over the issue of tithing, and i thought to share my opinion on this fundamental and somewhat controversial aspect of Christianity, for the Christains amongst us,whats your view on giving tithes to God?I personally believe it is very important,i ,mean giving ten per cent of what you earn to God and that  shouldn't be seen  as a big deal, right?not a big deal?but ,most times it becomes such a big deal, that's where the problem lies, after collecting that long anticipated salary or money earned from a business venture,it becomes an herculean task for us sometimes to set apart that money for tithe,i will be honest enough to admit that it happens to me and i can totally relate, but of course one has got to learn to adjust and know it is PART of your budget,it is your 'gbese'(debt) to God i have erred a lot of times by diverting the money to some other things, but trust me when i say,i see the effects thereafter.

Therefore i strive to put that money aside whenever i get the alert from my bank,it's not easy, but then when you think of God's immense blessings over your affairs, you can help but note that your tithe is just a paltry amount of money you can easily spend at the salon or at that favourite boutique of yours or some other frivolous thing.I have had this discussion with a lot of people and of course opinions vary, and i wouldn't even bore you with those that ask you all the time about who spends the money when you donate it in church, and i quickly reply by saying,i don't even care how the money is spent,i am just doing my role as stipulated in the holy book, while some are of the opinion that instead of paying tithes they would rather give to charity, all i can say is that do whatever floats your boat!

So my faithful readers are you faithful tithers?

Nigerians in Germany Protest Against Corruption By Government Officials.

Nigerians in diaspora are not leaving home based Nigerians to their fates alone, those in Germany recently took it upon themselves to come out and protest against the massive corruption we are currently enmeshed in,especially by our leaders who enjoy licking filthy lucre. They also protested against the state of insecurity in the country and the terror meted out on the Northern populace by the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

The protest which started by 10am had the German police on ground all through the protest which lasted for four hours. Fliers which served as cahier de doleance were distributed to passers-by and the embassy callers. The fliers read:
“168 Million Nigerians are under siege. At the mercy of a reckless, fascist government that has made corruption its deadly official policy. The Nigerian people demand sanctions and travel bans on political officers and global attention to the economic terrorism. There are 100 million destitute Nigerians while government officials loot billions of US Dollars every year. We call for global attention to the crises to the largest African nation and a very important nation in Africa and the world. What affects one man, affects all men”.
The group of Nigerians also bore placards with messages like: ‘It is easier to find a needle in a dark room than to find 20 Billion Dollars in Nigeria’; ‘Boko Haram kills innocent citizens, Nigerian government celebrates centenary. Hundreds of Nigerians (Including school children) dead within a week’.
