YET ANOTHER CHILD MARRIAGE

Seeing the picture above is enough to make one cringe and for one's blood to
boil in anger.Everything it depicts is totally wrong and must not be condoned. We call this act of giving out underage female children into marriages  an anomaly that should be condemned,it should not be celebrated and it is highly unacceptable.

What can be done to stem the tide of child marriage and child abuse in Nigeria especially in the North where it is prevalent? We must keep bringing this issue to light and to the attention of the powers that be both in the upper and lower house of Legislature. Under no circumstances should an underage girl who should be in school be forced into an early marriage.

We all know the disadvantages of this type of unions, most of the time the young girls end up with the Fistula Disease and are later abandoned by their so called husbands and in turn they constitute a burden to their families and the society as a whole. As it is,it seems the issue of child marriage is on the increase, despite all the campaign against it.

People hide under the guise of culture and religion to perpetuate these acts ,but the question is , what kind of culture forces people to inflict untold pain and hardships on their fellow human being, especially the young and helpless. We believe this is a breach of the fundamental human right of girls who find themselves in this type of situation.

For Nigeria to move forward,we must do away with certain retrogressive cultures, especially those that seem to benefit men and satisfy the depraved wants of some people. In the developed world, girls this age are being groomed in technological advancements, Literary world and other viable ventures.

This is not what we should focus on if we are to progress as a nation. We say no to child abuse and no to child marriage in Nigeria.

What do you expect from a country whose leaders don't care about the masses? Even some of the so called leaders practice and celebrate such atrocity. So, what do you expect?
These kind of things are the reason why I would support gender equality in sharing power. Because I believe if women in our society attain political powers, they would be able to fight willingly and legally against such sacrilege. #ItIsWell.

The first question to be asked is where r the parents of this innocent girl? Secondly, Are they in their right senses or exposed to sensitization about how to father/mother an offspring? I do not hold Leadership a factor responsible for this. It is a problem that has to do with Unpreplanned Procreation, lack of family planning and Family Instabilty, Its high time we hold on to our families. Value them, appreciate them and care for them. This problem shouldnt be premised on LEADERSHIP. Lets talk about FAMILY SUCCESS. Thats the root of LEADERSHIP itself.
