Singer Jessie J lost her trademark locks when she had her head shaved during tonight’s Red Nose Day fundraising extravaganza.
The Price Tag star was shown backstage with only her thick black fringe still in place before it too was shaved off.
She then unveiled her new look live on the BBC1 show, which is in its 25th year.
Speaking to host Dermot O’Leary, who seemed to be enjoying stroking
her newly-bald head, Jessie J said: “It’s the weirdest feeling.”
She had admitted being nervous beforehand, but told viewers: “It
feels so liberating. But this isn’t about this (gesturing to her head),
it’s about donating.”
She has raised more than £500,000 for good causes so far by having
her hair shaved off. The singer said it was “amazing” to have raised so
much money, and added: “Everyone’s crying. My mum’s back there, crying
with happiness.”
Jessie J, wearing large hoop earrings with a black top and trousers,
touched her head several times, apparently in disbelief. She stressed
that her mum liked her new image, despite it bringing her to tears.
Pop stars One Direction performed the official Comic Relief single, a
cover version of Blondie’s One Way or Another, band member Louis
Tomlinson having dyed his hair red for the occasion.
Ricky Gervais resurrected the character of David Brent, from The
Office, for the night of entertainment, hosted by a string of
celebrities including Davina McCall and Comic Relief co-founder Lenny
Henry. Meanwhile, comedian Peter Kay had travelled on a sofa from
Belfast to London, making his grand entrance in the studio during the
broadcast.
