Not having a landlord telling you not to plant or own a garden is music to the ears, how lucky you must be! It has been written several times on this page that yours truly cannot wait to own a garden where one can harvest little things to cook for the household. A farm is the bigger picture, one can start from a little garden from the back of one's house.
A former colleague at a place where I once worked gave my colleagues and i Vegetables harvested from her parent's little garden at home, they were so much. These little crops, vegetables etc, planted and harvested means a lot, the pride therein is even satisfying, that you planted some of your own food with your bare hands can give one a certain level of fulfilment.
