CONSTANT ELECTRICITY SUPPLY ALMOST SCARY

As an average Nigerian, who grew up in this country, we are so used to epileptic power supplies that, anytime we have it longer than usual, we become suspicious. Sounds crazy and funny, but that is the truth. You begin to ask yourselves why you have light! It is an anomaly, but true.

My toddler now shouts up Nepa! Anytime she sees light after a bout of darkness, even if the light is from the generator. And She is  not the only toddler in the country whom amongst other words, has that 'Up Nepa' in their vocabularies.

Lately we have been enjoying 'semi-constant' power supply. The freezer side of my refrigerator freezes everything under five minutes, the Air Conditioners are working almost 24/7.It is a development one is happy about, but its is scary at the same time.I see my friends putting messages on their social media handles asking if there is any thing wrong with the power distributing companies, and why are we enjoying power like this?We are not used to such largesse, etc.

We know electricity is our rights as citizens, but the power problem in Nigeria has made us skeptical and even cynical. The problem however did not start today,it is a menace that has troubled our nation for over four decades now or thereabout. So enjoying constant power seems like a miracle.

This weekend, the light barely went off, it was so convenient and enjoyable, that I begin to ask myself, why can't this go on forever? How I wish this constant use of power is permanent and not temporary, you can imagine how businesses would thrive, the positive effect it would have on the economy would be monumental. My generators would even rest. There would be reductions in Air and Noise pollutions, we will breathe in fresh air and not have to hiss and curse under our breath when how neighbors put on their generators. Oh the list of positives is endless. Let me stop here, will update you as events unfold.. Ciao!
