In what was a stiff and even violent election,the incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State Seriake Dickson was declared winner of the Governorship elections.
The elections which was initially slated for December 5 was marred by so much violence that the votes from Southern Ijaw
Local Government area,became disputed, hence Inec,the Nigerian electoral body called for a rerun.
Bayelsa voters returned the Governer by a landslide victory over APCs Timipre Sylvia.
However, the use of violence, thugs and ballot snatching that characterized the election has been condemned by all and sundry.
One wonders when we would be able to conduct elections in this country without the attendant blood letting and do or die mentality Nigerians exhibit over who would lead them. What happened in Bayelsa remains a shame to democracy in the 21st century.
