As much as I am an avid reader,I also watch a lot of movies in my spare time.As a matter of fact,I am a fan of good movies,season films,name it.
I marvel at the genius of these acclaimed screen writers,talk of the greatness of Game of Thrones,(Novel by George Martin adapted to the screen as a serialized film)the uniqueness of Power,produced by Rap Star Curtis Jackson AKA Fifty Cent,Scandal,How to get away with Murder,Grey's Anantomy,all by the brilliant Shonda Rimes.What about Vikings,Devious Maids,Quantico,Homeland,just to mention a few.
Back when we were young,once in a while we were allowed to sit with the adults and enjoy a movie or two,then if an adult notices that a scene was going to get too mushy especially as a romantic act is clearly about to commence,they quickly forwarded the scene or asked the young ones to leave the room. This is to say the movies back then gave you warnings of an impending romantic scene.That cannot be said of the movies churned out nowadays.
The viewer is caught strictly unaware,by the time one realizes it,one's eyes are assaulted with explicit scenes,obsceneties that makes one gag.I mean when my hubby bought the critically acclaimed movie Wolf of Wall Street,i was so eager to see it,what with the title,i felt oh it would be so brilliant,and with Leonardo De caprio as the Lead Character.Yes the movie is very brilliant until it hits you! One begins to wondrr if this is soft porn as some parts/scenes just leaves a sour taste in one's mouth. The viewer just sees two adults moaning and various acts of debauchery going on.It is even more common with scenes where they show same sex intimate scenes,it is either you watch or you quickly scamper for the remote control and forward.What I am saying is that,the scenes happen without warning.
It is now very dangerous to watch most of these films with children around,it is either you do so while they are asleep or you watch from the safety of your Phones,Laptops and Tablets as the case may be. You do not want their young minds corrupted trust me,in a world where there are already plenty of expletives to go round .The big screen at home is not safe anymore and that is stating the obvious.
Now someone might be won't to ask If it is a must to watch these movies or better yet,stick to Christian movies.You may be right for thinking this way,however,let me share a few things too about my observations in that regard.Highly revered Bishop TD Jakes has helped and put his name into so many Christian movie productions,expecially his critically acclaimed 'Woman Thousand Art Loosed'.
The last one I saw featuring one of my favourite actresses,Sharon Leal,cannot be categorized as a Christian movie in my opinion,the sex scenes left little to the imagination.Gospel Star Dietrick Haddon also starred in a movie and the sexual innuendo in that one too cannot be ignored although not as blatant as the former. Let us not even go near some Tyler Perry's faith based movies,Temptations anyone?Yes if you have see this movie then you know what I am talking about.
Lastly it is either one sticks to Mount Zion type films and of course our dear Nollywood which due to culture,(which I appreciate so much now) cannot be so brazen in their romantic exploits
, or one sees the Hollywood types with caution.
