Nigerians woke up on Sunday morning to the devastating news announcing the death of Eric Arubayi,a runner up at the first edition of Nigerians Idols,a musical competition.He was said to have passed away at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital at the young age of 34.
Eric was a toast of many people who rooted for him during the competition as he was a very great singer.After the competition,he decided to sing gospel songs,which was a genre he stuck to till his demise.A devoted father and husband,and a lover of Christ as attested to by many close to him,he got married to his wife Nonso Arubayi in 2013 and they both have a two year old son together.
According to Eric's brother,the handsome young man died as a result of complications arising from the use of expired Malaria drugs.He was said to have been treating malaria and typhoid and in the process the expired drugs affected his liver which in turn made him go into a coma.Everything seemed to have happened at a fast pace.
This is really sad and we can only pray for God to comfort the young family he left behind and his bereaved parents and siblings.This brings to fore the state of the Nigerian Healthcare system.Questions needs to be asked about expired drugs,fake drugs in circulation in the country.May his soul continue to rest in peace.
