WHAT IS WRONG WITH BEING A RECEPTIONIST

Hey Fam,hope you all enjoyed your Easter break as much as i did.Welcome back to work and i wish you well n all your endeavors.

Seriously a lot of people need to change their orientation in this present day Nigeria.Everybody now wants the shortest route to success.I have been meaning to write on this topic for a while now,but other things keep overriding that, which is a good thing because all the while that i stalled,i have gathered enough 'evidence' on the subject matter.

While i am not a receptionist,i will be the first to admit that i can take the position up if i were to be in dire need of a job, what are we even talking about,i have applied for a position like that before when i was earnestly seeking a job, bearing in mind that the present day Nigeria is not fair on graduates. So anything legitimate which you find yourself doing,do it with pride!

So many people hype themselves up,they hide what they do from family and friends, because they know they will be looked down on if they should mention the fact that they are front desk officers. To the best of my knowledge,a receptionist is always hardworking, attending to clients and trying to stay polite all day,it is not as if it is one job that leaves you insolent throughout the week. They go for trainings and are experts at what they do.

Gone are those days when our mothers were secretaries in organizations, and they talk about their jobs glowingly, but reverse is the case now,no one wants to start at the lower rung of the ladder, everybody wants to start as executives, not knowing you can always get to higher positions from anywhere you find yourself.

I don't know what is wrong with people nowadays, whatever happened to the phrase 'dignity of labor' why would anyone look down on a legitimate job with disdain, thinking it is not up to per?who made the rules on what is topnotch or not.So many jobless youth will kill just to be called for an interview to be office assistants, talk less of being the coveted   front desk officer which is even scarce this days.I see visitors act rudely to these receptionists, with their noses raised up as if the job classification has made the individual lowly.

No wonder this receptionists are always on the defensive, and somewhat rude, this is because most are trying to prove that hey,i also went to school, and the fact that i am sitting here doesn't ,mean i am not up to your level.you can read that through their disposition.

Let us all learn to appreciate other people's clean source of livelihood, form the gardener,to the office cleaner, even truck pushers. It is hard enough that government can't provide jobs for the teeming population,so whatever you find yourself doing,do it well and with pride.
