HANDLING REFUSE IN THE ENVIRONMENT

How much do you care for your immediate environment? This is a salient question that must be thrown at most Nigerians, especially those in the rural /rural-urban areas.

Some Nigerians are in the habit of filling their drainages/gutters with dirt especially when it rains,I have witnessed this so many times and it is appalling. I Simply ask if the money to pay Lawma the agency responsible  for clearing refuse is so much or what could the problem be.They are not repulsed by  filth.

As individuals, we must teach our children  and other little ones around us not to litter the streets, charity they say begins at home,so when a child drops his/her biscuit packet on the floor, that child must be made to understand how wrong  the habit is.Having talked about the need to make people more aware, the irony of it all is that, some of the Nigerians who are so enlightened  and well travelled are also guilty of the same offence. You would see people people throwing dirt from their fancy cars to the road as if it is the right thing to do.

We further degrade our environment  if we keep on flooding  it with  dirt,we pollute our water and food produce by doing so.Moreso the recycle culture in Nigeria cannot be compared to that of our western counterparts,so the heap keeps piling up.Let us do our own part in educating people who do not know better, because at the end of the day,the effect is ricocheting.I believe the duty lies not only with the government  but with us as individuals to take up this responsibility.
