Governor Nasir Elrufai has ordered the prompt arrest of the Youths responsible for the reckless and insensitive ultimatum issued by a certain Northern Youth Coalition for Igbos to vacate the North.
It is a step in the right direction. The culprits should be persecuted accordingly for trying to destabilize the polity and causing unrest. We do not want the fragile peace enjoyed in that region threatened.
While it is no longer news that there is a high level of distrust amongst ethnic groups in Nigeria, it is not strange. For a country that is an amalgam of different tribes and cultures, the mutual distrust is expected.
However, we have learnt to coexist for over a hundred years. We intermarry, we do business together, we practice the two major religions together. Indeed it is laughable that a group can out of the blues decide who stays and who leaves a particular region. Telling an entire tribe to leave in droves.
Such minds needs to be educated and reorientated.The freedom of movement right does not exist for nothing.
