THE SWIFT RESPONSE TO HURRICANE HARVEY- A LESSON FOR NIGERIA

Really, the massive Government  response to the storm wrecking havoc in Texas should not come as a surprise to us. Western Governments have always been responsive, proactive and swift when it comes to disasters of lesser magnitude, how much more a major one. They do not leave their citizens in a limbo.

The manner of evacuating those affected, the relief victims are getting, the shelters quickly made available etc, makes one question why we can't measure up here in Africa, particularly Nigeria, being the giant of Africa. IDPs are still starving to death. People are left homeless and dejected over minor floods. Wonder what will happen with a major disaster, heavens forbid!

Anyway, what caught yours truly's attention is the way Animals and pets were being handled with so much care. Rescued and cared for as though they were humans and an integral part of families(well they are) but from the Nigerian point of view, where humans are barely recipients of Government palliatives, it is really amazing to see animals treated with such dignity in the face of such disaster.
