IS FATHER KUKAH NOW A PARIAH?

Growing up and reading anything from Bishop Matthew  Kukah in the dailies, I knew he was a special man, a revered clergy who spoke the truth at all times.
I loved and still love his stance on issues, especially issues bordering on the lives of Nigerian. I saw him and still see him as a man who feared no regime, he spoke for the masses at a time when it was dangerous to do so.

So it came to me as a rude shock to  read disparaging comments about this man of Integrity on social media sites, especially on Twitter  some days ago just because he Kukah spoke some home truths about the recent happenings in the country. What was his offence exactly? You may ask.

Father Kukah recently criticized the President Buhari led administration that it needs  to focus on governance instead of investigating corruption linked to past governments in the country. He said these investigations are causing  distractions for the new president. And that we need a stable Nigeria first before and every other thing will fall into place.

Most commenters on the issue felt he said corrupt people should be forgiven and not probed at all. However  my own understanding of what the Bishop said is that the president should take one step at a time and that chasing corrupt officials should not top his list of priorities. I believe those that has rendered the economy to be in the state it is right now should be held accountable.

Truth be told, probing  past corrupt officials seems to be the hallmark of this new dispensation. Do I believe corrupt people should be probed? Definitely yes! Even sent to the gallows for putting Nigerians into such misery .

APC supporters should note that the president will be criticized. Not all his projects will be lauded and that is very normal in a democracy. I urge them to desist from attacking anyone that gives a constructive criticism of the President. Not someone like Bishop Kukah, who has impacted the lives of  so many people in this nation.
