ARE LAGOSIANS AT THE MERCY OF DANFO DRIVERS?

Who isn't tired of the menace commercial bus drivers otherwise known as  Danfo drivers have constituted on the streets of lagos. No wonder they are restricted in certain parts of the island which is the corporate hub of the state or the nation at large.

By Danfo drivers,i am particular about the yellow painted bus drivers.I seriously wonder why they have a union if almost all the drivers behave in thuggish manner, they are mostly drunk and their major prowess is knowing how to oppress  and bully  innocent drivers off the road. The damage their actions have caused to so many families cannot be exhausted. Was it not recently that a  man lost his life in the Maryland area of Lagos just because he was chasing a Danfo driver who put a dent on his car only to be hit by another Danfo driver from behind, thereby losing his life immediately,What a sad way to end the man's life. This is just one out of the many atrocities committed by these recalcitrant  drivers.

The death of a returnee young Lawyer who recently relocated to Nigeria from the UK  just last December is still fresh in one's memory, this was a brilliant twenty five year old young lady who had her life terminated abruptly by a drunk and careless Danfo driver, till now I don't  think the driver has been brought to book. One begins to wonder when they would act like sane human beings. Is it that there are no sensitization programs enough for these people to learn from? Why cause so much anger and pain for your fellow human being as they are going about their daily lives and you going about yours.

What this symbolizes is selfishness on their part,it is a factor of when you only think about yourself without considering the plight of others. And I think this issue boils down to this inherent selfishness in some people in Nigeria ,that need to only satisfy oneself at the detriment of others. It is evident in almost all sectors in the nation, however the focus of this writeup  is on these yellow bus drivers. Not also excluding commercial bike riders (okada) and tricycle  riders. They have become a thorn in the flesh of other motorists and pedestrians alike. They seem to always be in a hurry.

A lot of discipline needs to be enforced to get these set of people in line.As it were, it seems their various unions are not that functional and cannot put their members to order. The government needs to step up big time or else Lagos citizens would continue to be at their mercy. They must realize that their numerous offences are punishable by the law and luckily no one is above the law.
