WHAT ARE YOUR RECESSION COPING MECHANISMS

The question  came to my mind recently, that what are the people's  coping mechanisms in this biting recession  that has plagued the country.

It is not a secret that  everything in the country is now being sold for triple the price. The prices of commodities  has simply skyrocketed. It is so scary that when  you attempt to take N1000 (one thousand Naira)which is our highest currency to a nearby cornerstore to get one of two things, before you know it you have exhausted the money and you keep wondering oh God  what did I buy! The money is now almost useless, permit me to use that word.Once you buy an item out of it,best believe it is gone.

The situation  is actually  something to be worried about if one has to be realistic.Ordinary Caprisone drink for children has now become so expensive and so are other items.I wonder what kind of measures the government  is putting in place to ease the suffering of the masses. We can't  simply afford to let the situation degenerate further.People are just holding on to the tiniest thread of hope.

Subsequently, everyone is overly security conscious now because the spate of robberies and kidnappings in the polity has increased.Hooligans will  always be hooligans, but the dire situation in the country is giving them more leeway  to pose a danger to hardworking  people.Like i read somewhere, only a well fed person has a moral compass.Yet in the midst of all these, government officials  are still living in opulence, not minding that some can barely afford a meal a day.I do not want this to be about politics at all,but we must hold our leaders responsible. There are so much expectations  from the people, they are hoping the government  can come to their rescue.

Imagine the sad part, where the minimum wage of eighteen thousand Naira (18,000) can no longer  buy even a bag of rice, how do you think such families cope? Also the cost of fuel makes you have a rethink before venturing out of your home, except it is for work or somewhere very important ,the days of driving out for the sake of it is almost non existent,if the outing is not beneficial, best thing to do is to sit at home.

Like most  people, without being told, this is the time to cut down on unnecessary spendings, especially when it comes to ceremonies,Nigerians celebrate alot, name it,weddings, naming ceremonies, graduation parties etc,we always have one thing or the other to celebrate and we like to give gifts, which is a very good thing. However, one must now be wise in doing this, one cannot afford for his/her family to go hungry all in the name of being a 'Father Christmas '.You will only have yourself to blame. Frugal spending it is these days.

Focus on things that are useful  to you and cut down on frivolities, till the Government  can profer  solutions to these lingering crises. The Era of wasteful spending is over and even after the economy recovers, this is a lesson for most Nigerians to live within their means and save for the rainy days.
